reg-box Gaming enthusiasts must have seen this dreaded error message just before their favorite game loads up. As listed in the title, the error message concerns a DirectX 9 DLL file and DirectX files are required for the proper rendering of animation while playing graphically intensive games. In some cases the pain is aggravated because the error message is displayed while you are in the course of playing the game. Such error messages are more than enough to spoil the mood of any serious gamer out there. We shall be looking into some of the procedures which have been listed to troubleshoot such error messages.

  • As with all the DLL error messages it is better to start the troubleshooting session by restarting the PC. Sometimes the error might occur due to an improper loading of the DLL file, and with the system restart the loading process is smoothened and the error should disappear.
  • This error message is known to be shown on PCs which do not adorn the latest DirectX version. Most of the games might work on an older version of DirectX, but it is always better to switch to the most updated softwares and hopefully your error message should not appear after installation of the latest DirectX. It is on version 9 for Windows XP and 10 for Windows Vista.
  • The DirectX executable is a pretty large file and might take sometime if you have a slow internet connection at home. Most of the game developers include the latest build of DirectX along with the installation CD and they can found typically in a folder named DirectX.
  • Reinstalling the game is one option which is available to you. After installing the updated DirectX files, let the game recognize that your PC is updated with the newer DirectX and this should solve your problem at the earliest.
  • If no one of the available options are working out like mentioned, it is always better to download the said DLL file from a reputed website which specializes in distributing genuine DLL files. This should be the last resorted way because there are some websites which distribute malicious DLL files and you might never know about it.

Unlike the other forms of DLL error messages this error message is displayed even in the older Microsoft’s Operating Systems such as Windows 98 and Windows 2000. Even if the above stated procedures are not working out like mentioned, note down the exact error message which was displayed to you and do a Google search for it. Chances are high that you might find a suitable solution in the game’s official forum if anyone else has experienced the same with their installation too. Follow the procedures which have been outlined over there and it might get the problem fixed. Reinstalling Windows XP or the suitable operating system is one of the extreme methods to be followed in case nothing works out. Back ups should be taken before the reinstallation procedure.
